Working from anywhere
Brent works from his home office in Kingaroy, Queensland. The electrical company he supports operates from New South Wales.
Despite the distance, he remains the central point of contact for all things estimating, project management and documentation.
“The company is based in Mulgrave NSW, I’m based in Kingaroy QLD, literally helping run the business using remote systems”
Because Groundplan is cloud-based, project information remains accessible no matter where he is working.
“As our guys on site or even in our office touch anything, I can see the changes.”
For Brent, that visibility is critical. He doesn’t need to be sitting beside the team to stay informed.
One single source of truth
A recurring theme throughout this series has been creating a single source of truth. The cloud-based nature of Groundplan supports that goal.
Changes are visible immediately. Plans remain current, and all the information anyone needs, no matter their role, remains accessible.
“I can be on a holiday in Japan, jump on the internet and make a change to a plan. Everyone anywhere in the world who’s got access can see it.”
The result is a more connected team and fewer communication bottlenecks.
Removing guesswork from ordering
Brent also highlighted the impact this workflow has had on ordering material.
Because conduit runs are measured and labelled during takeoff, the information can be used directly by project managers and installers. Rather than estimating quantities, the team simply follow the quantities quoted on the plan.
“It’s allowed me a lot more time to do quotes”
For Brent, that’s one of the system's biggest advantages. He’s spent the time refining the system, which helps the guys on site focus on what they need to do; everything is set up and templated for them.
A better way to work
As we wrapped up, Brent reflected on the impact Groundplan has had on his day-to-day work.
“It’s just streamlines everything so much faster for me and so much simpler.”
After watching Brent’s workflow from start to finish, it’s easy to see why. Groundplan isn’t just helping him create estimates.
